But, of course, if you’re working all the time, you don’t have any capacity to work on other projects. And that’s a real problem. What if you’re about to make a massive breakthrough that might make you a lot of money? That’s the price you pay when you focus solely on a job someone else gives to you.

The good news is that there are side jobs you can do to pay the bills while you focus on your main projects. If you can work doing something that won’t drain your energy, you’ll be able to concentrate on the projects that matter most to you.

So, what should you be doing? Which jobs are relatively easy and don’t require sacrificing your soul? Let’s take a look at some of your options:

Customer Service

One realm you might want to look into is customer service. These jobs tend to have blocked hours - say 6 pm until 10 pm, giving you the rest of the day to focus on your other work (whatever that happens to be).

The best customer service roles are those where you can just spend the evening typing and text chatting to irate customers. This way, you don’t have to listen to anyone screaming at you down the phone (which would stress out most people). The work isn’t particularly well-paid, but it is cushy – enough to pay the bills while you focus on the stuff that matters.

Another option is freelance work. Becoming a designer or writer can provide you with a relatively easy source of income. However, you need to be careful. There’s always a temptation when you work for yourself to take on extra jobs and really push yourself. In general, that’s not a good idea, but it is something you can manage if you are extremely conscientious and passionate about your side project.

Trucker Work

Another place you might want to look is trucker jobs. Obviously, you can’t work on something while you’re driving. But trucking is also something you can do part-time.

What’s nice about the work (besides the pay), is the sheer amount of money you can make doing it. Once you have the right qualifications, your earnings potential is much higher than in most other easy-going roles.

What’s more, you can organize your work pretty easily. Most trucking companies and logistics firms will set aside strict time schedules where you’ll be working, allowing you to get on and enjoy yourself the rest of the time.

Data Entry

Yes, it’s tedious, but data entry is another job you might want to consider doing on the side while you focus on what matters to you. Again, like the rest of the roles we’ve discussed, it’s the sort of work you can put on autopilot while you concentrate on what matters to you the most.
