A Protest Gathering
I was at a protest gathering in my neighborhood last Saturday morning and was joined by hundreds of people of all ages, colors, and denominations.
They were all there for the same reason. Describing their fears, concerns, and uncertainties that have impacted their lives since the election of “You know who.”
Many of them were carrying posters and one really caught my eyes. The most amazing thing to me was it didn’t have any printed words on it, although it spoke volumes to me and I am sure many others as well. It was a picture of the Statue of Liberty crying and her tears running down her cheeks and landing onto her out-stretched hands. She stands in the New York harbor, greeting and welcoming all people that are arriving here, in our country, to begin a new life in a land where freedom and opportunity await them. She now sheds her tears because she knows that new arrivals and even citizens of the United States can be returned to where from they came because of some horrendous and senseless whim from ”You know who.”
Protest gatherings give us strength and unity to help lessen our fears, concerns, and uncertainties that have impacted our lives. “We the people have the power, not the people in power.”
A Hopeful Protester
