The Druid

Irish Pub in the heart of Cambridge’s Inman Square, The Druid is what a real Irish pub should be, a friendly gathering spot with excellent food and exceptional entertainment, a social experience you’ll never forget!

Housed in the oldest wooden mercantile building in the city of Cambridge the atmosphere is timeless. Under new management, since 2004 The Druid has firmly established itself as a home from home in the hearts of our many regulars and passers-by.

Known for its excellent food, twelve beers on draft including, of course, it’s perfect Guinness Stout, a full bar, and daily specials and the exceptional array of entertainment throughout the week like trivia nights on Wednesdays, The Druid is an experience not to be missed and never to be forgotten!

A nice spot for lunch, dinner, or Sunday brunch. They are open Saturdays at 11 am serving lunch and Irish breakfast. Their veggie burger and fish and chips are frequently cited as the best in Cambridge.

Outlook Kitchen and Bar

Located in Seaport District, building on top of the new POV inside their inspired hotel, they created the Lookout Rooftop and Bar, a celebration of visionary thinking mixed with maverick mojo. Up, and out, a pinnacle design unfurls against the killer skyline and harbor views. Bold character oozes over the expanse, filled with cozy couches and community spaces, a railing bar and jaunty ell, modern intrigue and signature surprise. Elemental to the concept, a desire to feed the senses—drinks masterfully rendered by virtuoso mixologists, tracks laid down on tone with the vibe, and everywhere, a vantage point on what’s next.

The Envoy’s modern building, radiating light and glass is crowned by the Rooftop Bar. The panoramic views of the Boston skyline and Boston Harbor are unmatched in the Boston’s Innovation District and on par with the best rooftop venues in Boston. The uniquely-shaped bar is complemented by intimate seating groups and glowing fire pits. The covered seating areas have built-in ceiling mounted heaters for cool evenings. The beverage-only bar features unique house-made craft cocktails, microbrews and wine by the glass collections.

Enjoy the bar in the summer, and get warm and comfy in winter inside an igloo bar, with warm blankets and buzz to call a server whenever you’re ready to order. You can also privatize the venue.

R.F. O’Sullivan & Son

“If you’ve got the urge for the thickest, juiciest, freshest, most mouth-watering burger around, point your carnivore compass to R.F. O’Sullivan’s Pub, in Somerville, Massachusetts.

At O’Sullivan’s, they fire up the grill for about 400 pounds of hamburger every week. These burgers are big. Each belly-busting beast is a half-pound of fresh-ground sirloin. To cook a burger this thick and juicy takes patience, and about 20 minutes.

Richard Sullivan - Owner, R.F. O’Sullivan’s Pub: “People come in, and they get mad, but I explain to them, it’s not like your everyday place, it takes time to cook.

There’s no shortage of selection at O’Sullivan’s. The menu offers over two-dozen types of burgers, all for about seven bucks.

It’s a rare restaurant that will still cook a burger rare, but O’Sullivan’s does it without fear.

Richard Sullivan: “We have people who just come in here to eat it rare. Most places now are hard to get a rare hamburger, I’m not afraid to serve it rare. Because I know, myself I eat it that way, I taste the meat myself, and I know it’s quality.”

Don’t squish the burgers!

Richard Sullivan: “That’s the number one rule, is when these chefs come in to cook I say, ‘Do not squish the burgers down. We’re known for a nice puffy burger.’ The way the meat is, if you squish it, like a lot of people do, you’re squishing out the juices, the flavors of it, which is the number one, do not do.”

The R.F. O’Sullivan and Son menu lists a few dozen versions topped with all kinds of cheeses, bacon, onion, peppers, salsa, even sausage. Condiments aside, these are superior measures on the charcoal grill, inhaling maximum smoky flavor and remaining succulent enough to demand you tuck a napkin in your shirt collar before the first bite triggers a geyser of beefy juices.” The Phantom Gourmet.   It’s also a nice spot to watch games.

Lets-Have-A-DrinkCBC (Cambridge Brewing Company

Great place for beer lovers, they also have great appetizers.

Like I said in my February article on Cambridge restaurants, the big thing at the Cambridge Brewing Company for me is the CBC Buffalo Chicken Tenders! Unchanged for 28 years! My husband would add to that the Tripel Threat Belgian-style beer. They have a large selection of beers and the food is great for a laid-back casual night out.

CBC has joined the Ales for ALS campaign in support of ALS TDI’s mission to discover and develop effective treatments for ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Ales for ALS is a unique craft brewery-based fundraising initiative created to accelerate drug development for ALS patients today.  As part of the program, participant brewers receive a special blend of experimental hops donated by B.T. Loftus Ranches and Hopunion. From these hops, each brewer will brew a unique beer and donate a portion of the sales to ALS TDI.
